I am interested in how pottery affects us in our every day activities. This is reflected in my work as a ceramicist. The excitement of creating a piece, applying a glaze, and waiting anxiously for it to come out of the kiln is still there. I enjoy the quietness and the concentration that working with clay provides. In ceramics you can always create an original piece and never feel like you are repeating yourself. When I create my pieces, I like to imagine how they will be used. I think about the flowers that will be arranged in my vase, the objects that will be displayed on my platter, and kind of soup that will be eaten from my bowl. When I make a mug I think about how much coffee it will hold, and how the handle will feel in my hand. I put in a large amount of time, thought, effort, and passion in each ceramic piece I create. It is a very satisfying feeling knowing that hundreds of my pieces are being used on a daily basis. I see my pieces as ornamental objects intended to visually engage and enhance their environment.
